IN CONVERSATION WITH: EVE BUCKLEY

As she prepares for the release of her debut EP, Eve Buckley's distinctive voice and storytelling are poised to make a significant impact on the contemporary music landscape. We sat down with the singer-songwriter to deep-dive into her creative universe

how did you get into music?

I’ve loved singing since I was small and growing up I went to a lot of my brother’s gigs

watching different bands he was in, and went to loads of gigs in my teens. Then from there

just started exploring for myself and playing open mics back at home and started wriAng my

own stuff.

What is Eve Buckley all about?

I think my music has a kind of nostalgic sound that people can connect to, and everything

about it is emoAonally driven so the sound has been born from just serving the intenAon of

the songs and the writing. And then obviously everything that I listen to comes out in the

writing and the production so yeah I suppose that’s what my music is about, the emotional

intent and a sentimental sound.

When did you start writing your music? And do you write all of it yourself?

I probably wrote my first song around like 15, but didn’t like anything I was wriAng unAl I was

like 19 which was when I got into stuff that I’m sAll inspired by. Then when I moved to Leeds

I started wriAng with different people and just wrote more and more. But I always start

wriAng songs on my own and then someAmes take the foundaAons of songs to people I’m

working with.

Your latest single “Tongue tied” what is it about? Walk us through its concept

Tongue Tied kind of follows my experience of and reflecAon on falling out of love through a

first relaAonship, I wrote it a couple years aMer so the whole song is my journey throughout

it all. It feels like a confession of a song because at a certain Ame it was an unspoken truth,

and the song progresses to an outcry of realisaAon and the personal growth that

materialized at the end of it.

Does your music usually come from personal experiences?

Yeah I mean all the music I’ve released so far have been from personal experiences, and I

think with this body of work I’m working on currently, they’re all quite personal songs.

Who are the artists that inspire you the most?

I’m hugely inspired by Lianne La Havas, her latest album has been a massive inspiraAon for

my first project, her wriAng, her vocals, everything. I’ve listened to few different arAsts

whilst releasing the recent singles, Lucy Rose’s latest album I’ve listened a lot to, and Yazmin

Lacey.

What’s next for Eve Buckley?

I have my first body of work coming out early 2025, so keep an eye out for that

announcement. And along with that I’ll be playing a few shows!
